Bedford Technology Celebrates 20th Anniversary Today! | Bedford Technology

Company Story

In 1998, Bedford Technology was founded. With deep-seeded roots in engineering, Bedford Technology was formed out of innovative thinking, advanced technology and problem-solving. Bedford Industries manufactured twist ties for the coffee, bakery and produce industries and had a lot of extra material (trim) that was going to the landfill.

The engineers at Bedford Technology found a useful and environmentally-friendly solution and started manufacturing plastic lumber. SelectForce® was the first recycled plastic lumber product line offered by Bedford Technology as a great alternative to other building materials like wood, metal and concrete because it doesn’t splinter, rot or break and can stand up to extreme weather conditions like rain, snow, heat and wind. The benefits and performance characteristics of plastic lumber  over these other materials quickly increased its demand.

Plastic Lumber Industry Grows

Bedford Technology acknowledged the increased customer demand for plastic lumber and took many steps to provide an even better product to serve the construction market. These steps included product testing, quality standards and more product lines to meet the structural, durability and environmentally-friendly project requirements needed from customers.

Bedford Technology now offers over 7 different product lines. SelectForce® laid the foundation and is still a high-performing product in the marketplace. Along with this staple product, FiberForce® and BarForce® add strength and structural integrity by utilizing fiberglass strand and fiberglass polymer rebar. The marine industry has also seen great success with SeaPile® and SeaTimber®, which can withstand high moisture levels and boat, vessel and barge impact without needing to be replaced.
