A lot of time and planning goes into road construction, and one important factor is to understand the topography on which the road is built. These methods are typically constructed out of wood, metal and concrete, but are not long-lasting solutions, and oftentimes require maintenance over time.

Since these stabilization solutions are installed underground, constant exposure to wet soil will break down traditional materials like wood and can cause rot and mold which will lead to project failure. Structural integrity for the building material is important because these applications are used to stabilize soil and rock and must maintain stability on its own. Lastly, the material must be durable enough to withstand outdoor weather conditions that could leach into the soil and affect the soil stabilization technique and project application. Using traditional building materials may not be the best choice for this type of application because it will need to be repaired and replaced over time, costing more money and time in the long run.
